Parquetry |
Parquet Floor is a mosaic of timber pieces arranged geometrically form patterns or images on floors. Parquet pieces are generally smaller than traditional floorboards and come in different shapes to enable geometric patterns to be formed. Different coloured parquet pieces are arranged together to form the patterns.
Usually, large blocks or segments of Parquet patterns are pre-arranged before laying and then the surrounding areas of the floor are filled in manually, or individual pieces can be layed one by one.
Since parquet floors are made of solid timber pieces, it needs to be sanded and polished (unless the parquet pieces are pre-finished). For a more detailed description of the Sanding and Polishing process, see the Floor Restorations page.
